Legislature Changes Jurisdictional Limits

In the last legislative session, the Alabama Legislature made a significant change to Ala Code Section 12-11-30 (1975.) Effective Sunday September 1, 2019, the monetary jurisdictional limit for filing civil cases in the District Court will increase from $10,000 to $20,000. This will allow you to bring larger cases in District Court where you can often get a quicker resolution of your case and often allows a Plaintiff to pay a smaller filing fee. There are also additional changes. For example, the circumstances regarding the concurrent jurisdiction between the District and Circuit Court have changed and should be examined.
